Biggest Cocaine Bust Ever In Dorchester County, MarylandMaryland Lieutenant Frank Ford says Dorchester County, Maryland has never seen this big of a cocaine bust
"This is a very large seizure for any area, not just for the Eastern Shore. That's a lot of cocaine off the street," says Ford.
Four months of investigation by the Dorchester County, Maryland Drug Task force turned up these drugs and about $2,000.00 of drug money. The Maryland task force is made up of city, county and Maryland state police forces in Dorchester County, Maryland.
"It shows what a cooperative effort can do to get a lot of cocaine off the street. I'm tickled to death," said Ford.
Maryland police arrested four men and a woman. Four face Drug Kingpin charges and six different counts of drug possession. They are being held without bond. The fifth is being charged with Possesion of Cocaine, he is being held with a $250,000.00 fine.
The Kingpin charges alone can land the four up to 20 years in prison.
On top of that, two of those charged as drug kingpins are illegal aliens. States Attorney Michelle Barnes says that's not going to effect their sentence.
"I would not say that we're going to just drop the cases and let them go on their way, so they're going to have to deal with us first," said Barnes.
Maryland police say cocaine is Dorchester county's biggest problem behind marijuana. They're glad to get this much off the street.
"It effects a lot of other crimes going on. That's where you get your thefts, your robberies, and your assaults," said Barnes.
