Maryland Man sentenced to 25 yearsMaryland Man sentenced to 25 years in heroin distribution case
A Northeast Baltimore, Maryland man was sentenced yesterday in city Circuit Court to 25 years in prison for his role in a heroin operation that was the subject of a wiretap investigation lasting several months in 2001, prosecutors said.
During sentencing, Judge Paul E. Alpert called Marvin Cantine, 40, of the 1500 block of Burnwood Road one of the higher-ups in the drug operation, and said his activities caused shootings and homicides.
A jury in January convicted Cantine and Harvey Lippman, 31, of the 1300 block of Colbury Road, Maryland of conspiracy with intent to distribute narcotics in a case prosecuted by Assistant State's Attorneys Randi Lifson and Nancy Olin. The wiretap investigation intercepted numerous conversations between Cantine and Lippman about acquiring large quantities of heroin and money, and resulted in the seizure of more than 3 kilograms of raw heroin, eight guns and $300,000 in raids in Maryland and Delaware, according to prosecutors.
