Philly Murder Suspect Arrested In Maryland

EASTON, Maryland A man arrested last week at an Easton apartment will be extradited to Philadelphia to face homicide charges.

Easton, Maryland police arrested Avron Holland, 27, of Philadelphia, on Sept. 25 along with three other people on drug-related charges.

The Philadelphia Police Department had obtained a warrant in May for Holland's arrest on charges of killing Michael Jones, 26, of Philadelphia. Police alleged Holland shot Jones after an argument April 21. Jones died of his wounds the next day.

Holland had been using the name Azeez Williams, but was identified through an FBI wanted poster and fingerprints.

Sgt. Bill Britt of the Philadelphia police said Holland would be extradited to Philadelphia in about 30 to 90 days.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation learned that Holland had family or friends living near Easton and issued the wanted poster to the Maryland bureau's Salisbury office and local Maryland law enforcement agencies.

On Sept. 25, after an investigation into alleged drug dealing near the Easton Elementary School Moton Building, Maryland police served a search and seizure warrant at the apartment.

Maryland police detained three men inside and searched the apartment. They found about 3 ounces of suspected marijuana, about 1.1 grams of suspected crack cocaine, two handguns, $781.35 in cash and two scales, police said.

Maryland police charged Holland with crack cocaine and marijuana possession with intent to distribute in a school zone, possession of a firearm with and altering the firearm's identification number. Holland is being held at the Talbot County, Maryland Detention Center on $100,000 full bond.

Maryland police also arrested the other two men and the apartment's tenant on several drug-related charges.
