Maryland first lady Kendel Ehrlich to be among speakers tonight at HC DrugFree presentation

Maryland first lady Kendel Ehrlich is scheduled to be among the speakers tonight at a program presented by HC DrugFree, a coalition of parents, schools, county agencies and community organizations in Maryland.

The program, "The Family: The First Line of Defense in Preventing Substance Abuse," will be presented from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jim Rouse Theatre at Wilde Lake High School, 5460 Trumpeter Road, Columbia, Maryland. The focus will be on the importance of family support, boundaries, expectations, values and communication in helping young people avoid alcohol and other drugs.

Other speakers will include Wilde Lake High School Principal Restia Whitaker; Richard Krieg, president and chief executive officer of Horizon Foundation; Tom Cargiulo, director of substance abuse services for the Howard County, Maryland Health Department; and Lynda Mitic, principal of Centennial High School and a founder of HC DrugFree.

Parents and teen-agers are urged to attend. Registration is not required.

HC DrugFree offers a speaker series from October to April covering topics such as teen drug use, underage drinking and driving, Senior Week in Ocean City, Maryland depression, leadership and dating.
