Maryland prosecutors announce alleged drug ring indictmentsTrial dates have been set for two separate drug cases in which a total of 23 people have been indicted on charges of drug trafficking, money laundering and gun charges. The Maryland U.S. Attorney's office announced that federal a grand jury indicted 16 people who allegedly operated a drug business that sold cocaine, crack cocaine and PCP. In the indictment, Maryland prosecutors alleged that the group was headed by 24-year-old Deone A. Melvin of Seabrook. Maryland prosecutors said 12 of the defendants were from Prince George's County, Maryland communities.
A trial date has been set for June 8, 2004.
In a separate indictment, federal prosecutors alleged that for four years seven defendants — all from Prince George's — operated a cocaine and PCP drug market in Palmer Park, Maryland the same community where the county police department is headquartered.
A trial date in this case has been set for Feb. 23.
In both cases, one or both parents of the alleged ring leaders also face charges, Maryland prosecutors said.
